Sara Kelly (BA '10) worked with local teens to create large-scale mural in Cedar-Riverside neighborhood
Upon graduating with a degree in Fine Art in 2010, Sara Kelly went on to design and create murals, as well as found an organization to teach various art forms to local youth. She founded the organization, Hip Hope, in 2012 to teach dance, rap, drawing, painting, and music video production. Utilizing her background in community murals, Kelly took to the south-facing wall of the Keefer Court Bakery & Café. Here, she created a mural along with teens from the neighborhood, to pay homage to the Chinese immigrants who once lived there. The spray painted mural includes Chinese symbols, such as a cat and a dragon, and ties in visual elements from the nearby Green Line and 35W bridge.
