Search 110: Drawing and Painting Tenure Track Asst. Prof.

TITLE: Assistant Professor (tenure track)

APPOINTMENT: 100% time, tenure-track appointment, to begin August 25, 2014 (9 month semester system)

SALARY: Competitive

DESCRIPTION: The Department of Art in the College of Liberal Arts at the U of MN invites applications for a full time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art - Drawing and Painting position. The drawing and painting area in the department is seeking candidates who are challenging, redefining and advancing the language of contemporary painting and drawing. Artists with additional expertise in digital 2D imaging are encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

RESEARCH:
• Engage in creative activity and research that leads to exhibition appropriate to the profession. Achieve and maintain high distinction in the field of art
TEACHING:
• Commitment and dedication to both undergraduate and graduate teaching in a professional program within a liberal arts college
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in drawing and painting within a fine arts department
• Teaching options including collaboration and interdisciplinary activity are available
• Advise undergraduate/graduate students
• Participate on graduate reviews/thesis committees
SERVICE:
• Serve on departmental, college and university committees. Achieve and maintain a visible and proactive service profile

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


A. MFA in Art or extensive professional recognition and experience (required)
B. Practicing artist in drawing and/or painting or interdisciplinary use of drawing and painting (required)
C. Evidence of an active exhibition record and demonstrated excellence in and recognition of dynamic ongoing creative research on a national and/or international level (required)
D. Expertise in contemporary issues, criticism and critical theory (preferred)
E. One to three years of university or college-level teaching experience beyond graduate teaching assistantships (preferred)

Department of Art Policy Statement
In lieu of an MFA, the following could be considered in determining professional recognition and experience:
1) Advanced studies at a foreign school that does not award MFA degrees;
2) Extended advanced study with recognized artists in the field.
3) Professional achievement which would provide a depth of knowledge of the field comparable to an MFA
4) Evaluation by leaders in the field attesting that because of exhibition record and other professional achievement, that person was the equal of an MFA

8. Documentation of your work may include: one CD containing one folder with no more than twenty (20) jpeg or tiff images with maximum 2000 pixels in either direction.
Label each image in this format:
LastnameFirstname_00.tif (e.g. SmithSally_01, SmithSally_02, etc.) indicating preferred viewing order. Collect all images in a folder titled with your name (LastnameFirstname).
