The New York-based collaborative filmmaking team of David Siegel and Scott McGeehee will be in Minneapolis to present their work on THURSDAY, MARCH 31 - 7:00 P.M. in the INFLUX AUDITORIUM - REGIS CENTER FOR ART.
The Film Society of Minneapolis - Saint Paul will screen four Siegel and McGeehee feature-length films, UNCERTAINTY at 7:15 on Friday, April 01 (Q & A with filmmakers follows this screening) and Suture (5:00), The Deep End (7:00) and Bee Season (9:15) on Saturday, April 02 at the Saint Anthony Main Theater.
Siegel & McGehee began making short films together in San Francisco in 1990. Together they have collaborated on four feature films as writers/directors/producers, including: their critically acclaimed debut, SUTURE (1994), a playful upending of genre expectations; THE DEEP END (2001), an award-winning suspense thriller adapted from the 1947 Elizabeth Sanxay Holding novel The Blank Wall; and most recently, the experimental UNCERTAINTY (2009), an improvised exploration of chance and choice, made in New York City, where Siegel & McGehee currently live and work. Their films have screened at the Telluride, Toronto, Sundance, and Cannes Film Festivals, amongst others, and won numerous awards. The pair also attended the Sundance Writers Lab with an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's THIS SWEET SICKNESS in 1999. Their film BEE SEASON, written by Naomi Foner, was released by Fox Searchlight in 2005; and they are currently at work on a new feature titled WHAT MAISIE KNEW, adapted by Carroll Cartwright and Nancy Doyne from the Henry James novel of the same title.
Scott McGehee is a graduate of Columbia University, with a BA in English, as well as an advanced degree in Japanese Cinema Studies from UC Berkeley's Department of Rhetoric. David Siegel is a graduate of UC Berkeley, with a BA in Architecture, as well as a recipient of an MFA in Photography from the Rhode Island School of Design.
The Department of Art, the West Bank Arts Quarter and the Film Society of Minneapolis - Saint Paul are excited to present this rare opportunity to see the work of this multi-talented filmmaking team and to participate in a dialog about their long-standing collaboration and creative processes.
