Photographs by MFA candidate Xavier Tavera and professors Paul Shambroom and James Henkel selected for inclusion in Minneapolis Institute of Arts' exhibition "100+: A Photograph for Every Year of the MIA"
Opening reception Thursday, March 19, 7:30-9 PM, Harrison Photography Gallery
Exhibition on view: March 19 - October 18, 2015
“100+” celebrates the MIA’s Birthday Year with photographs from every year since the museum’s founding with a selection from the more than 12,000 images in the collection of the Department of Photography and New Media. The MIA’s interest in photography reaches back to 1903, before the MIA existed. Known then as the Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts, this precursor held its first photography exhibition in the Minneapolis Public Library at 1834 Emerson Avenue North. It would be another 70 years before the MIA established its Department of Photography, in 1972.
